On December 18th, Selvish Capers of the New York Giants and his friends at Athletes for Charity were in Staten Island to visit two schools that were hard hit by Superstorm Sandy, but before they could leave Staten Island, they wanted a few stops to “Cheer on our heroes of All Hands Volunteers and Habitat for Humanity that are helping with the rebuilding efforts.” Our lovely Project Staten Island volunteer coordinator, Meg, was happy to direct them to a site where one of our Team Leaders would be sure to appreciate their presence a bit more. Team Leader, Bruce is a HUGE Giants Fan, and said the following after the surprise visit from Selvish and his group, “The Selvish visit was nice, took them into the house and explained what we did and why we did what we did in regards to gutting a house, shared some stories about my experience with survivors of Sandy to make it more personal, which they were extremely interested in hearing about, so yeah …meant a lot to both them and myself.”

The president of Athletes for Charity, Cathleen Laporte, asked us to make sure the pictures in this post got to Bruce, but besides just sending them on to him we thought the All Hands Family might enjoy them too. Along with the pictures she sent these kind words, “We applaud the amazing work that you are doing. Thank God for amazing organizations such as yours and the amazing people that do the grunt work to help others in need. God bless you all.”

Cathleen, Selvish, and friends, we want to thank you as well for taking the time out of your busy schedules to help those affected by Superstorm Sandy, the organizations, like ours, supporting them, and giving our volunteer Bruce a well deserved surprise.
